Erectile dysfunction

A Satisfying sex life remains an important contributor to your quality of life. Sexual dysfunction in men therefore not only usually has an affect on the man, but also on their partner and can cause anxiety and stress within an intimate relationship.

Male sexual disorders are more common among older men. They are manifested in an inability to get or maintain an erection, which, in many cases, is sufficiently firm enough for satisfactory sexual intercourse. Significant improvements in the therapy of erectile disorders (impotence) have meant that most men are now able to achieve a sufficient erection after treatment. Medication is available in the form of tablets whereby it is extremely important to take the correct dosage for the best results and a successful outcome.  If oral medications do not help, then a satisfactory erection can be achieved in the majority of men by using an extremely thin needle to inject an agent directly into the penis to open blood vessels, thus filling the corpora cavernosa, or otherwise by means of so-called vacuum pumps - mechanical devices designed to induce an erection by creating a vacuum that draws blood into the penis. Erectile disorders are a common problem and affect 30% of men over 50. Successful treatment also depends on the length of time spent living with ED i.e. the sooner you get treatment, the better your chances of success.  Erectile dysfunction can however also be seen an early warning sign of a more serious illness, such as diabetes or high blood pressure, which is why it is necessary to undergo a detailed examination in order to rule out any other potential accompanying illnesses.

Aging men are not the only ones to suffer from erectile dysfunction. The inability to get and keep an erection can affect men of all ages – make sure you consult a specialist sooner rather than later.
